he Institute collaborates with a variety of organizations based on issues of common cause. We proudly engage both formally and informally with established organizations that overlap with our mission:
- IHS is a Specialist Member of the International Humanist and Ethical Union (IHEU), the worldwide humanist federation. IHS president, Larry Jones, is a Vice-President of the IHEU and a humanist representative at the United Nations. IHS executive director, Matt Cherry, represents IHEU and the humanist perspective at the United Nations, where he is president (and first elected humanist officer) of its NGO Committee on Freedom of Religion or Belief.
- IHS is a Founding Member of the Secular Coalition for America, the new lobbying coalition for national freethought organizations in the United States.
- IHS also collaborates with two other humanist groups based in New York’s Capital District: the Black American Free Thought Association holds discussion meetings at various locations in Albany, including the Humanist Center; the Capital District Humanist Society is an independent membership group that provides speaker meetings, social events and a monthly newsletter to humanists in and around Albany, New York.
